You will lead research initiatives, develop innovative machine learning algorithms, and translate research prototypes into scalable, production-ready solutions. Your work will focus on enhancing Matterport’s digital twin platform, transforming physical spaces into immersive digital representations, and extracting valuable insights from complex 3D data. This role demands a deep expertise in machine learning, computer vision, and 3D data processing, coupled with a passion for solving real-world problems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and researchers, to deliver impactful features that revolutionize how users interact with digital representations of real estate and built environments. This is a remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work at the forefront of spatial computing innovation.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field
3+ years of experience in machine learning research and development, with a focus on computer vision or 3D data processing
Proficiency in PyTorch and strong programming skills in Python
Solid understanding of deep learning architectures such as CNNs and Transformers
Experience with data manipulation libraries like NumPy and Pandas
Proven ability to conduct independent research, propose innovative solutions, and implement them effectively
Excellent problem-solving skills and experience working with complex datasets
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related fields
5+ years of industry experience in applied machine learning, especially with shipping models to production
Expertise in 3D computer vision topics such as SLAM, NeRFs, 3D reconstruction, point cloud, and mesh processing
Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP and MLOps practices
Strong publication record in top-tier conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS)
Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical projects
Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas to diverse audiences

Responsibilities
Conduct advanced research in machine learning, computer vision, and 3D data processing to develop novel algorithms for spatial understanding and digital twin creation
Design, implement, and optimize scalable ML systems and pipelines for processing large-scale 3D datasets including point clouds, meshes, and images
Translate research prototypes into production-ready solutions, collaborating with engineering teams for seamless integration
Evaluate and benchmark model performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive iterative enhancements
Stay current with the latest advancements in ML research and industry trends, applying new techniques to solve company challenges
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, explore technical feasibility, and deliver impactful features
Present research findings and technical solutions internally and contribute to the broader ML community through publications and patents
Contribute to the strategic roadmap and architectural design of Matterport’s ML systems and research initiatives
