Role overview
As a Data Scientist, you will deliver analytical insights by applying machine learning, programming, data modeling, and advanced mathematics to uncover complex patterns and drive meaningful impact across the organization. You will work with member, financial, and operational data to support the development of business‑critical models and to identify opportunities for new products, services, and process optimization.
Over time, you will deepen your understanding of business needs and objectives and take on projects of increasing complexity, scope, and strategic influence.
Responsibilities
- check_circle Design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and algorithms, with a strong focus on credit scoring.
- check_circle Identify meaningful insights from large datasets and metadata sources.
- check_circle Test hypotheses, analyze results, and interpret model performance.
- check_circle Develop and code basic programs, algorithms, and automated analytics pipelines.
- check_circle Participate in presenting analytical findings, model results, and recommendations to senior management and internal stakeholders.
- check_circle Exercise sound judgment and discretion within established procedures and best practices.
- check_circle Increase awareness of regulatory requirements—including Compliance and Fair Lending—and participate with relevant teams to validate models prior to implementation.
- check_circle Create high‑quality written and verbal documentation, including model development, performance, and governance materials.
- check_circle Build strong working relationships with team members and subject matter experts.
- check_circle 3+ years of experience in exploratory data analysis, including building tree‑based models.
- check_circle Strong programming and analytical skills, including experience with SQL, R, Python, SAS, and AWS.
- check_circle Basic understanding of financial services or banking concepts.
- check_circle Strong technical writing abilities, especially for model documentation.
- check_circle Strong data storytelling and technical presentation skills.
- check_circle Strong research, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
- check_circle Ability to critically evaluate your own work, and handle complex problems.
- check_circle Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- check_circle High initiative, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
- check_circle Technical proficiency in big data analytics, coding, project management, and technical writing.
- check_circle Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
- check_circle 3+ years of experience in financial services, particularly in acquisition model development, credit policy, or risk management.
- check_circle Experience validating models and partnering with internal or external auditors.
- check_circle Master’s in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
