Our customer is seeking an AI Engineer to design, develop, and operate intelligent AI systems supporting complex enterprise workflows. This role focuses heavily on backend engineering (approximately 70%) with additional contributions to frontend and user interface development (approximately 30%). The engineer will work closely with product managers and software teams to deliver scalable, secure, and AI-enabled capabilities into production environments.
This position involves building AI-driven services, multi-step workflows, and system integrations, particularly leveraging modern architectures such as large-language-model systems, agent-based workflows, and retrieval augmented generation (RAG). The role requires strong experience delivering backend services in cloud environments and familiarity with modern AI tooling.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-enabled services and agent based workflows
- Build and maintain API-driven backend services supporting AI powered applications
- Contribute to frontend components and user interfaces supporting AI workflows
- Implement multi-step AI workflows with tool usage, data retrieval, and external system integrations
- Integrate AI systems with enterprise data platforms and business systems
- Develop and maintain observability, logging, and monitoring for AI services
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and governance requirements
- Participate in architectural reviews and contribute to platform standards and best practices
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and operating backend APIs and services
- Hands on experience with MCPs and AI workflows
- Experience designing and operating containerized services (Docker, sandboxing)
- Hands-on experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems
- Proficiency with SQL and relational database design
- Experience deploying and operating cloud-native applications in production environments
Preferred
- Experience designing or operating agent-based AI systems in enterprise environments
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Prompt engineering experience
- Familiarity with Claude Agent SDK, Anthropic tools, or similar agent frameworks
- Experience with AI observability/tracing tools (e.g., LangFuse)
- Experience using Node.js ORMs such as Prisma or Drizzle
- Experience building APIs with Express, Fastify, or similar frameworks
- Experience contributing to frontend/UI development for AI applications
- Familiarity with React and modern frontend practices
- Experience using Shadcn UI or similar component libraries
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
Tools and Technologies
- Programming: C#, Python, Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript), RESTful APIs
- AI Systems: LLMs, MCPs, agent-based workflows, RAG systems
- Data: SQL, relational modeling, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL
