Join us as a Data Scientist, where you will drive innovation and deliver commercial value from data across the Corporate Bank. You’ll work closely with the Data Science team to shape projects, leveraging Machine Learning and Generative AI to extract insights and deliver tangible business impact. Using a design-led approach and a “fail-fast” mindset, you’ll collaborate with business stakeholders to identify opportunities and prototype solutions. This role offers the chance to work with extensive datasets and apply cutting-edge AI techniques to unlock material business value.

Essential Skills / Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science (or similar) or equivalent commercial experience.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to deliver ideas from inception to production, translating technical work into clear business value.
  • Hands-on experience applying Machine Learning techniques (e.g., clustering, classification, regression, NLP) to drive business outcomes.
  • Proficient coding skills in Python and SQL, with the ability to write modular, production-ready code and follow good development practices.
  • Familiarity with AWS data science/AI services (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock) and understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, and RAG frameworks.
  • Competent in data visualisation (Tableau preferred; QlikView, Power BI or similar advantageous).
  • Knowledge of code management practices and a proactive, self-motivated approach to learning new tools, skills, and techniques.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in a big data environment using PySpark.
  • Ability to build close-to-production standard pipelines for data analysis / ML / visualisation.
  • Front-end or lightweight app development experience (e.g., Angular/React, Flask/Streamlit) and/or familiarity with MVC architecture.
  • Experience of Agentic AI.
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics; interest/experience in deep learning models beneficial.

This role is based in London or Glasgow.

Purpose of the role

To use innovative data analytics and machine learning techniques to extract valuable insights from the bank's data reserves, leveraging these insights to inform strategic decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and drive innovation across the organisation.

Accountabilities

  • Identification, collection, extraction of data from various sources, including internal and external sources.
  • Performing data cleaning, wrangling, and transformation to ensure its quality and suitability for analysis.
  • Development and maintenance of efficient data pipelines for automated data acquisition and processing.
  • Design and conduct of statistical and machine learning models to analyse patterns, trends, and relationships in the data.
  • Development and implementation of predictive models to forecast future outcomes and identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to seek out opportunities to add value from data through Data Science.
