We're looking for a Data Scientist who wants to automate routine decisions and empower our humans to be more efficient. You'll work alongside our Detection and Response (D&R) Engineering and Security Operations Center (SOC) teams to deliver quick, iterative wins that improve how we detect and investigate cybersecurity incidents.

What you can do for Expel

  • Support our security analysts by continuously improving alert quality, workflow efficiency, and detection capabilities through advanced analytics, machine learning, and Gen AI.
  • Work across our operations, engineering and service delivery teams, ensuring Expel can easily deploy, monitor, and manage all of our machine learning capabilities.
  • Drive business decisions by translating data insights into clear, actionable knowledge for the organization.
  • Foster an atmosphere of experimentation, continuous learning, and improvement.
  • Maintain and enhance our existing models while supporting new data science initiatives.
  • Contribute to Expel's external voice through blog posts and conference speaking.

What you should bring with you

  • Ability and desire to collaborate and work with teams throughout the organization to foster research and innovation
  • Ability to communicate technical data science concepts to various audiences, especially non data science experts
  • Passion for finding order and meaning in large, chaotic data sets an amorphous problem domains
  • Deep proficiency with Python (pandas, numpy, sklearn) and SQL for model development.
  • Knowledge of statistics (distributions, hypothesis testing, probability, etc.)
  • Proficiency of a few popular data science and visualization frameworks such at scikit-learn, plotly, pandas, and numpy, and the underlying statistics that drive them
  • Understanding of data engineering and proven experience with cloud deployment best practices
  • Prefers 3+ years of data science experience creating models, analyzing data and drawing conclusions, recommending next steps, and summarizing key results to stakeholders
  • A Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, or Computer Science (or equivalent experience in AI/ML).

Additional information

The base salary for this role is $118,400 - $171,700 + bonus and equity.
