Role overview

This is a 12-month, part-time contract (with the possibility of a permanent position) for a graduate-level or early-career data scientist. You will work closely with clinicians, engineers, and researchers to analyse complex biomedical data and help build AI-driven tools for personalised cancer treatment.

You will also contribute to a quantum machine learning (QML) research project in collaboration with UKRI STFC at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus (Didcot, Oxford).

Responsibilities

  • Analyse and model complex biomedical and clinical datasets (omics, imaging, and patient records)
  • Develop and evaluate machine learning models to predict patient treatment response
  • Clean, preprocess, and visualise multimodal datasets
  • Contribute to a quantum machine learning research project in collaboration with UKRI STFC
  • Work with clinicians, engineers, and researchers to translate insights into product features
  • Document methods, experiments, and results in technical reports and publications
  • Support general administrative and operational tasks as needed
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong Python skills (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch and/or TensorFlow)
  • Solid understanding of machine learning and statistical modelling techniques
  • Experience working with real-world, messy datasets
  • Strong interest in healthcare, oncology, or biomedical research
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working within healthcare, biotech, or life sciences
  • Familiarity with quantum computing concepts or quantum machine learning algorithms
  • Degree or formal training in a biological or medical field
  • Experience designing, deploying, or supporting solutions using cloud architecture and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)
