We are currently looking for you as

Data Scientist / Software Engineer / Applied Mathematician (m/w/d)

Do you want to advance data-driven biomedical research through state-of-the-art mathematical models, intelligent algorithms and high-quality software solutions? Are you looking for a role in which you can combine technical excellence, scientific curiosity and interdisciplinary collaboration – and in which you can actively shape complex analytical projects? Then you've come to the right place.

In our team, you will work on challenging issues at the interface of biology, mathematics, computer science and engineering – in an environment where quality, innovation and collegial cooperation are very important.

What to expect

In this position, you will develop and implement advanced mathematical models to describe complex biomedical processes and translate them into scalable software solutions – from algorithm design and development to efficient data processing and modern full-stack applications. You will program powerful algorithms (C++, C#, Python), build robust, reproducible analysis pipelines and develop data-driven workflows that reliably support research teams.

You will analyze large biomedical datasets, automate data processes and integrate AI-based analysis methods where they add real value. You will prepare complex results in a clear, structured and scientifically sound manner – for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

In addition, you will actively shape our software and data architecture: You will ensure high quality standards, further develop code standards, ensure testing, documentation and sustainable technical decisions. You will work closely with our project teams and contribute your expertise to the systematic advancement of data-driven biomedical research.

If you already have some experience in technical project management, you can ideally contribute it here.

What you bring

  • A university degree (M.Sc or Ph.D.) in applied mathematics, computer science, physics, bioinformatics or a related field.
  • Sound experience in modeling, simulation and numerical methods – ideally related to dynamic biochemical systems.
  • Excellent programming skills in C++, C# and Python as well as experience in the development of scientific software, including full-stack development, UI conception and databases (SQL/NoSQL).
  • Experience working with large scientific datasets and building robust, reproducible data and analytics pipelines.
  • Knowledge of AI methods and their integration into real-world research or analysis processes.
  • Ideally, initial experience in technical project management or coordination of complex development projects.
  • A structured, analytical way of working, a high level of problem-solving skills and enjoyment of innovation.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical content clearly and in a way that is appropriate for the target audience – even for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Very good command of English; knowledge of German is a plus..

What we offer you

  • A technically and scientifically demanding position with a high level of personal responsibility and a lot of creative freedom.
  • The opportunity to actively shape data-based approaches in biomedical research and to contribute your own ideas.
  • Close cooperation with interdisciplinary experts and decision-makers.
  • Modern software, computing and analysis environments with high quality standards.
  • An environment that promotes curiosity, excellence, clear structure and collegial cooperation.
  • Flexible working hours as well as individual development and further training opportunities.

If you would like to combine data-driven research, sophisticated modeling and modern software development, we look forward to getting to know you.
