Responsibilities

  • Discuss with faculty and senior researchers to identify research questions, discuss results, analyze alternative routes to ensure progress
  • Conduct literature search prior to and throughout each research project to familiarize oneself with state of the art
  • Implement code to run experiments to explore the research questions, analyze results
  • Document work, including: documenting code, drafting manuscripts, prepare slideshow presentations for internal review and for conferences

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of professional experience as a machine learning researcher in an academic research institution or as a machine learning engineering/developer in a private company.
  • Experience in coding using python as well as using machine learning libraries such as sklearn, opencv, pytorch (or tensorflow).
  • An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a machine learning researcher in an academic research institution or as a machine learning engineering/developer in a private company.
  • Experience in leading machine learning projects with a focus on Computer Vision or Natural Language Processing
  • Experience in coding using python, as well as using machine learning libraries such as sklearn, opencv, pytorch (or tensorflow).
  • Experience in scientific writing as proven by a track record of scientific publications in journals or conferences
  • An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering, or physics.
  • Experience in working with medical images such as fundoscopy images, OCT’s, MRI's, digital histopathology are desired.
  • Experience in working with real-world medical datasets (e.g., images, EHR records, genetic data)
  • Experience in using containerization software such as Docker, relational database and SQL, git (and github)
  • Master’s degree or PhD degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering or physics
  • Proven track record of publications in medical informatics journals and conferences (medical imaging in Ophthalmology)
  • Experience in mentoring junior roles/students
  • Experience with the NIH grant types and experience contributing to grant writing
  • Experience in working with medical images such as fundoscopy images, OCT’s, MRI's, digital histopathology are desired.
  • Experience in working with real-world medical datasets (e.g., images, EHR records, genetic data)
  • Experience in using containerization software such as Docker, relational database and SQL, git (and github)
  • Knowledge of basic concept of Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing (through course work, academic projects, or work experience)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
