The Senior Artificial Intelligence Engineer applies advanced knowledge to design, develop, and deploy complex AI-powered systems connecting credit union operations with modern AI/ML platforms. This role works independently with limited supervision, managing complex AI projects and coaching junior team members. The incumbent solves difficult and sometimes complex technical challenges in AI architecture, system integration, and production deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex AI systems including agentic AI frameworks, multi-model orchestration, and advanced RAG implementations
  • Architect scalable AI solutions integrating multiple AI/ML platforms and enterprise systems
  • Build sophisticated data pipelines including real-time processing, vector embeddings, and feature stores
  • Implement MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectivity and advanced AI integration patterns
  • Make independent technical decisions on system architecture, frameworks, and deployment strategies
  • Manage complex AI projects independently from requirements gathering through production deployment
  • Coordinate with product teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors to deliver AI solutions
  • Drive technical decisions on project approach with limited supervision from architects
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality, security, and compliance requirements
  • Provide technical estimates and risk assessments for project planning
  • Diagnose and resolve difficult integration issues, including API failures, performance bottlenecks, and data quality problems
  • Develop solutions for complex challenges in system interoperability, scalability, and real-time processing
  • Troubleshoot production AI system issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing fixes
  • Optimize AI systems for performance, cost efficiency, and reliability
  • Address security and compliance requirements in AI implementations for financial services
  • Coach and review the work of junior engineers, guiding AI engineering best practices
  • Create technical documentation, integration guides, and architectural decision records
  • Lead knowledge-sharing sessions on AI design patterns and emerging technologies
  • Support team development through mentorship and technical guidance
  • Apply deep expertise in AI engineering, system architecture, and production ML operations
  • Lead AI initiatives from design through deployment, coordinating with multiple stakeholders
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise
  • Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
  • Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related technical field
  • Master's degree or equivalent advanced education/certifications preferred
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in software development, with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML systems
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical projects independently
  • Track record of delivering complex AI solutions in production environments
  • Financial services or credit union experience preferred
  • Experience with enterprise system integration and API development
  • Expert proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern software development practices
  • Advanced experience with AI/ML platforms (Databricks, Azure ML, AWS SageMaker) and LLM integration
  • Advanced knowledge of RAG architectures, vector databases, and agentic AI patterns
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization, and MLOps practices
  • Proficient knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance in financial services
  • Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult and often complex problems or situations
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties
