About the team

This role will ideally be located in Menlo Park, CA, New York, NY, or Seattle, WA

Robinhood is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer who is passionate about privacy to become a member of the Privacy Engineering team.

The Privacy Engineering team is a core pillar of Security & Privacy and works with teams across Robinhood to ensure our products and services protect user privacy by designing architectures, tools, and features that make Robinhood’s data collection transparent, and gives users control over their data throughout the data lifecycle.

You will serve as the technical lead and advocate for our environment, working closely with the Engineering Manager to establish decisions, designs, and discussions related to privacy tooling and concepts at Robinhood. You will not only lead the development of industry-vetted privacy solutions but drive a vision and innovative ideas to implementation as the company evolves and grows.

What you'll do day-to-day:

  • Build and support the technical environment that allows us to deliver privacy-centric solutions to our internal and external stakeholders. This includes discovery and documentation of the ways that data is collected, processed, and stored across our products and infrastructure to ensure our data collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk
  • Lead and manage development of new privacy features, tools, and scalable solutions to optimize the work of the Privacy Engineering team
  • Partner with technical and non-technical teams, including Engineering, Product, Compliance, and Legal
  • Advocate for privacy-preserving solutions and identify innovative opportunities to advance our privacy posture
  • Establish a clear vision and roadmap for privacy technology at Robinhood, delegating work across our technical and non-technical team members as well as key stakeholder groups
  • Communicate and evangelize our privacy vision and solutions both internally and externally

About you:

  • B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of work experience in software engineering or privacy engineering
  • Coding and code review experience in one or more general purpose languages, including diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in team mentorship, as well as building relationships and influencing stakeholders across multiple disciplines
  • Experience setting a technical vision for a team or area of expertise at an organization
  • Experience with concepts and practices such as threat modeling, data anonymization and classification, auditing access to data, and review of requests for data access

Bonus points:

  • Experience in AWS environments
  • Experience with Python, Django, Go
  • Experience in privacy with one or more of the following privacy principles or technologies: privacy by design, user data protection, GDPR, CCPA / CPRA, data inventory, data loss prevention, encryption, anonymization or privacy impact assessments
  • IAPP privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM, CIPT)
  • Experience in Finance, FinTech, or Portfolio Trading
