Role overview

Our client, a global leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist to join their team under contract with ProQuality Network. The selected professional will lead advanced analytics and data science initiatives across Puerto Rico Operations, partnering with cross-functional teams in commercial insights, manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and IT.

This role is responsible for the end-to-end execution of data-driven projects, leveraging statistical modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to drive actionable business insights. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise and strategic vision to support innovation and deliver measurable impact through advanced data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute advanced analytics, data science, machine learning, and AI projects across the organization.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to derive insights that generate significant business value.
  • Identify business needs, conduct SWOT analyses, and propose analytical approaches to solve complex problems.
  • Develop high-performance algorithms, predictive models, and proof-of-concept prototypes using Python.
  • Design and implement data integration strategies across diverse systems such as PAT, LIMS, MES, and OSIsoft PI.
  • Utilize SQL and other database query languages for data extraction and analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering, business, and product teams to ensure analytics align with strategic objectives.
  • Present analytical results and recommendations clearly to business partners through visualizations and presentations.
  • Develop compelling data stories and presentations using PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory standards throughout project execution.

Preferred qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, automation, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with Apache Spark, Databricks, and distributed computing environments.
  • Strong skills in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Spotfire, including UX design understanding for effective storytelling.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning algorithms and model evaluation techniques.
  • Experience in multivariate statistical analysis and tools such as SIMCA for data exploration and predictive modeling.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional and global teams.
  • Experience integrating diverse data sources for end-to-end process analytics and digital transformation.
  • Doctorate degree in Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field; OR
  • Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or related disciplines; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience; OR
  • Associate’s degree with 8+ years of related experience; OR
  • High School/GED with 10+ years of relevant experience in data analytics, engineering, or applied mathematics.
  • Strong background in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Proven experience leading projects end-to-end, from concept to deployment.
  • Expertise in relational and graph databases, SQL, and data modeling.
  • Programming proficiency in Python, R, or SAS, with familiarity in ML libraries (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, MLib).
  • Ability to write modular, reusable code and navigate Linux environments.
  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle complex datasets.
  • Strong ability to collaborate, influence, and communicate across business and technical teams.
  • Experience handling large datasets and using distributed computing tools (e.g., Spark, Hive).
  • Demonstrated passion for continuous learning and keeping pace with new technologies.
  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry preferred.
