Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIPBB) is a platform dedicated to applied research and the development of innovative industrial technologies. As a non-profit organization supported by public and private partners, SIPBB provides workspaces, technologies, and services to teams active in Industry 4.0 and 5.0, additive manufacturing, energy storage and battery recycling, as well as MedTech.

To strengthen the team of the Swiss Smart Factory (SSF), one of our four applied research centers, we are looking for a Software Engineer / Data Scientist (m/f/d) (80–100%), starting immediately or by mutual agreement.

The Swiss Smart Factory at Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne conducts applied research projects in collaboration with industrial and academic partners. In this role, you will contribute to innovative projects in the fields of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, Data Science, and Generative AI. You will help develop practical solutions that transform research results into industrial applications.

Your Profile

  • Strong Python skills and practical experience with one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, Rust, Node.js, or Kotlin
  • Experience with AI and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and DevOps tools, particularly Docker
  • Experience applying machine learning algorithms to complex technology solutions, ideally including deep learning, generative models, and large language models (LLMs)
  • Ability to work independently, creatively, and in a structured manner within research and innovation projects
  • Strong interest in emerging technologies and interdisciplinary challenges
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification
  • Fluent in German or French (spoken and written), English proficiency is a plus
  • Experience with Git, web development, or IoT connectivity is an advantage
  • Experience with innovation projects or agile working methods is a plus

Your Tasks

  • Conduct and, where appropriate, lead research projects in machine learning, deep learning, LLM-based agents, optimization algorithms, or robotics
  • Develop innovative web, AI, and IoT solutions for Industry 4.0 and 5.0 applications
  • Prepare, structure, and analyze data for applied research and industrial projects
  • Design and develop system prototypes to demonstrate and validate research outcomes
  • Contribute to software design, prototyping, and testing activities in close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, customers, and project partners
  • Depending on your interests, contribute to workshops, guided visits, and innovation events
